"Homeward Bound is about Arthur, an elderly man whose life has come to a standstill after the passing of his wife, Helen. He embarks on a mysterious journey in search of his wife in the afterlife. '"

Homeward Bound was my final project for the University of the Arts Utrecht. It was a group project, for which I was the Co-Asset Lead. I also helped with the storyboarding, animation, texturing and motioncapture.

It was quite a challange doing such a big project with 8 fellow students. But I learned so much and it was an amazing experience as much as it was stressfull. It taught me how to work better in a team, how to brainstorm with a larger group, how to combine ideas together and overal taught me the whole process of a production.

The story changed a few times (of course) so me and another classmate created a few storyboards. The picture on the right was one of the last ones I made before we started using the mocap data in Maya.

It was really interesting storyboarding with someone and seeing how we interpreted the story in a different way. It was fun mixing it up and creating awesome seqeunces with our combined storyboards.

As Co-Asset Lead it was my job to put everything together. I helped search for the objects, making sure they were in line with our style, and as I was putting it all together in the scene, another clasmate textured it.

A few objects were a bit more important, especially in earlier versions of the story. So our concept artist made a few more focust drawings and we wanted to recreate them in 3D. To match the concept art better I used Photshop and substance painter.

For the animation I helped with capturing the mocap data, putting it through motion builder into maya, cleaning it and adding animation. This taught me a lot about motion capture and also especially what works and what doesnt.

We also tried to add in an effect of a sparkle trail for the butterfly. So I went into geometry nodes in blender and tried some things. I really liked how the trail looked, sadly due to render issues it would take to much time to actually render it with the film. So we had to drop it, but it was fun and I still really like it :)

This was my second year project for the University of the Arts Utrecht. It was a group project of four people. For this project I was the Lead Asset, I also dit some of the animation, helped with the editing and did some of the producer tasks, like scheduling.

"A trash bin takes great pride in keeping the streets clean. But one can escapes, and a fierce chase ensues."

Blikvanger was my first year shortfilm for the University of the Arts Utrecht. This was a solo project. I had a lot of fun creating this one. Going from the story to the storyboards on paper, to creating all the assets, animating it and finally putting it all together.

Concept 2.jpg

From the first sketch on the left to the concept art on the right, it was really fun to figure out how I wanted it to look. For the animation I had to figure out how I wanted the trash bin and can to move, so of course I went to youtube and looked at kangeroos and bunnies and even at Tigger from Winnie the Pooh jumping around and thus created a movement for my characters that would work wel.
